Treatment of demodicosis on the face of a person

Demodecosis is a skin pathology caused by a parasite of the genus Demodex. The disease that occurs in the sebaceous glands of humans and other mammals affects the skin, eyelids and eyeballs. Moreover, more often an infectious disease is observed in women, less common on the face in men. If there are signs of the disease, the dermatologist prescribes treatment for demodecosis on the face.

Causes and symptoms

Demodex - acne tick, provoking the development of a pathological process. A person can be affected by two species of ticks from the genus Demodex: folliculorum and brevis (ciliary mite).

The parasite lives in the sebaceous glands and ducts in the eyelid, in the hair follicles. It differs in a meager size (up to 0.3 mm), as a result of which it is impossible to consider it without a microscope. The secret that the sebaceous glands produce is the food for the parasite.

The tick provoking the development of the pathological process is conditionally pathogenic, since it can live on the skin of a healthy person, coexisting peacefully for a long time. In the presence of certain conditions, it is activated, causing an infectious lesion of the skin. Infection of the skin of the face and eyelids can be caused by:

  • the presence of chronic diseases and weakened immunity;
  • failure of the endocrine system, as well as prolonged use of hormonal drugs;
  • stressful situations and prolonged depression;
  • frequent visits to tanning salons;
  • smoking and alcohol abuse.

The treatment regimen for demodicosis also depends on the form of the disease. There are two forms of demodicosis on the face:

  • Ophthalmic (demodecosis of eyebrows and eyelids) - characterized by redness of the eyeballs, the appearance of edema and inflammation, damage to the eyelids and eyebrow.
  • Dermatological - characterized by damage to the skin of the face: the appearance of redness and peeling, the formation of ulcers on the forehead, cheeks and nose. Often there is even demodicosis of the auricles.

On a note!

Infection is transmitted contact-household way (close hugs with the patient or general use of hygiene items).

Symptoms of demodicosis are expressed as:

  • tuberous acne and pustules;
  • small rash and rosacea;
  • spots of various sizes;
  • itching, which is most often manifested in the evening hours;
  • loss of eyelashes or the appearance of crusts and scales on them;
  • photophobia and painful spasm of the eyelids;
  • redness of the eyeballs and lacrimation.

The above signs are evidence that a person has activated acne mite. Below is a photo of demodicosis on the face in women and men.

On a note!

Despite the fact that the mite's life cycle is about 15 days, Demodex multiplies quite quickly and actively.After 2 days, a larva appears from the egg laid by the tick, which after 3 days becomes active and leaves the follicle. After another two days, she turns into a sexually mature individual, which returns to its former place of stay, where it produces new offspring.

Demodex cannot reproduce outside the human body, but it is adapted to live: in a dry environment - about 2 days, in water - about 3 weeks.

How to verify the presence of microorganisms

It is impossible to determine the presence and type of the microorganism by external symptoms, and therefore, scraping is done from the affected areas of the skin of the face or several eyelashes. The material is placed on a glass slide and examined under a microscope.

Important!

In order to avoid obtaining false results, before using the scraping, it is necessary to exclude the use of cosmetics, creams and lotions for several days. Should also not be a day test for demodicosis wash face.

Based on the results obtained (if 5 or more adult individuals are found per 1 sq. Cm of the skin area, or eggs and larvae of the parasite are found), the ophthalmologist or dermatologist prescribes treatment. How much pathology is treated depends on the type of parasite.
