Frontline Nexgard Pills for Ticks and Fleas for Dogs

The industry for protecting pets from internal and external parasites does not stand still. The folk methods of bathing animals in a decoction of tobacco and laying out twigs of wormwood on the litter have long been forgotten. Moreover, these methods did not work. Primitive means were replaced by more advanced ones. dog tick preparationstruly providing pet protection. “Long-playing” drugs in the form of drops appeared on sale, collars, sprays or powder. But besides drops, all remedies have a common drawback: they are afraid of water. The substances that make up the second-generation protective equipment did not involve internal use either. Only drops could be absorbed into the subcutaneous layer and protect the animal from the inside. Frontline Nexguard chewable tablets for dogs against fleas and ticks are a logical development of absorbable drops. A new substance, which is part of the tablets, is less dangerous for the liver than drugs in drops. The leadership in the production of tablets is still held by Merial.

What do tablets look like and why are they better

Not all dogs agree to be treated with stinky substances. Some do not allow to put on even a collar. The option of rubbing drops into the withers, spraying with a spray or sprinkling powder with such animals may not be feasible.

On a note!

Anthelmintic drugs to such animals also do not always succeed in feeding. A new generation of remedies is good in that flea and tick pills for dogs delicious. In dogs, taste buds are poorly developed, they are guided by the sense of smell. It smells good, then it tastes good. It is not necessary to force a dog to eat a pill. The greedy beast also grabs his fingers.

Frontline Nexgart tablets look like cubes or circles of pink color: from light to dark. The round form Front Line for small dogs. The weight of these tablets is 0.5 g. The shape of Frontline Nexguard tablets for larger animals is rectangular.

Officially, the duration of the drug is 30 days. But ectoparasites did not read advertisements and are actually absent from the animal for a longer time.

On a note!

The active substance in the tablet against ticks and fleas Frontline Nexgard is only one: afoxolaner.

The second product of the company, Nexguard Spectra, contains two active preparations at once:

  • afoxolaner from fleas and ticks;
  • milbemycin oxime from helminths.

Sellers recommend giving pills 1 time per month, but worms are not recommended to poison so often. Therefore, when using the second drug, you need to alternate it with Frontline Neksgard.

The benefits of pills

On sale you can find drugs from 3 companies:

  • market leader Merial from France, producing both varieties of Nesgard;
  • the closest competitor to the Dutch company Intervet International B.V., which produces Bravecto tablets;
  • American Zoetis Inc. sells Symparic tablets.

All companies have their own "active" active substance used in chewable tablets for dogs. Afoxolaner is used for fleas in Frontline Nexgard, fleralaner in Bravecto, and sarolaner in Simparik.Such a discrepancy will allow the alternation of drugs, if it turns out that the parasites are already accustomed to one of them.

Frontline tablets have the advantages that all other remedies are deprived of:

  • the dog does not need to be bathed with anti-flea shampoo;
  • it doesn’t matter if the next period of prophylaxis has been missed, you can start again with the same dose and according to the scheme indicated in the manufacturer's instructions;
  • if the owner has a lot of dogs, you can not limit the communication of pets, no one will recover, licking the drug from a friend;
  • it is easy to give each dog his portion;
  • drugs protect against 2 types flea and 8 ticks;
  • dogs willingly eat Frontline Neksgard due to well-selected aromatic additives and flavor enhancers;
  • can be used from the age of 2 months;
  • Frontline Neksgard can be fed to puppy and lactating bitches;
  • the drug begins to act already half an hour after feeding;
  • You can not be afraid of the manic passion of some dogs for ponds: even if the dog stays in the water all day, the product will not be washed off;
  • the duration of the drug is 4 weeks.

So that parasites do not develop resistance to one of the drugs, drugs must be alternated.

How does it work

Afoxolaner paralyzes parasites, which leads to their death. The tool is easily absorbed into the blood through the intestinal mucosa, the action begins 30 minutes after the dog eats it. After 4 hours, the concentration of the drug reaches a maximum. Afoxolaner penetrates the tissues and is excreted in the urine very slowly. After 2 weeks, its concentration will decrease by 2 times. After another 2 weeks, the remnants of the drug cease to affect ectoparasites, so a new portion is needed.

On a note!

Ticks and fleas are temporary parasites that lay eggs outside the host. After the first use, fleas present on the animal die within 6 hours, and ticks after 48. Fleas die before laying eggs. It also allows to reduce the population living outside the dog, and to prevent infection of the housing with larvae and eggs of fleas.

Reviews of Frontline Nexgard dog tick pills confirm the high effectiveness of this tool. The only drawback: the parasite must bite the dog in order to die.

Feedback

I switched to chewable tablets for one simple reason: external remedies stopped working normally. Most likely, they began to sell fakes. Of Front lines only a spray is on sale, and it is either washed off or eroded, but the action is very short. I tried Frontline Nexgard tablets. Contrary to the assertion that they only last 4 weeks, I have not seen fleas and ticks all summer. Gave only once. So I think that today it is the most profitable drug for protect dogs from parasites.

  • 6.3% macrogol 4000;

If starch, soy and food additives for dogs are harmless, then you need to look at the health status of a particular dog. Glycerol and macrogol are laxatives for adults used in medicine. Their task in Front Line tablets is to increase the absorption time of the active substance. They are contraindicated in some diseases of the internal organs:

  • ulcers on the mucosa of the large intestine;
  • intestinal obstruction;
  • diarrhea;
  • inflammation and swelling of the rectum;
  • renal failure.

Renal failure is often found in dogs in acute or chronic form.

Feedback

At my dog I do not observe any side effects, but I have a young dog, and I give Neksgard once a year. In winter, there are no parasites, and in summer, a single use is enough for the season. But I often go to France and take the original funds, so I can not say anything about those that are sold in Russia.

Contraindications

When used correctly, Frontline Nexgard tablet does not cause side effects. But with prolonged use, you may experience:

  • loss of appetite;
  • diarrhea;
  • vomiting
  • drowsiness;
  • skin irritation.

Pills are not intended for productive animals. Side effects resulting from prolonged use are explained by the composition of excipients.

Dosage

For the bulk of the dogs, ready-made tablets are sold, over which you do not have to rack your brains. The dosage of the active substance in these tablets is designed for a certain weight range:

  • 2-4 kg: tablet weighing 0.5 g;
  • 4-10 kg: 1.25 g;
  • 10-25 kg: 3 g;
  • 25-50 kg: 3 g.

On a note!

Since a double overdose to a dog is not dangerous, the dose of afoxolaner in each tablet is provided along the upper weight limit. When feeding, do not break the tablets to reduce the dose. It’s difficult to divide the Frontline pill exactly by eye, and a smaller dose will not give a result.

If the dog weighs more than 50 kg, then the additional rate is determined based on the calculation of 2.5 mg of afoxolaner per 1 kg of dog weight. The dose of the drug in the largest tablet is 136 mg.

Cost

The price of Frontline Nexgard tablets is directly related to their size and the dose of the drug in them. The smaller the tablet, the lower the price. The cost of the smallest tablet is from 1500 rubles. The largest costs from 2100 rubles.
