Mustard and Vinegar versus Colorado potato beetle: proportions and reviews

What techniques do gardeners not use to get rid of an uninvited guest from America: from store-bought potent insecticides to folk ways to destroy the pest. There have been a decent amount of recipes during the expansion of the American parasite to the European continent and it is not easy to choose an effective method. In some recipes for getting rid of the pest, dry mustard and table vinegar are indicated as effective substances for expelling parasites from the garden. Mustard and vinegar against the Colorado potato beetle are used as ingredients in solution.

How to exterminate a beetle with mustard powder

Culinary seasoning powder is not poison. If you process potatoes with mustard powder, Colorado beetle will not die. Spice only repels the insect, and its larvae do not like the bitter taste. The use of dry mustard from a Colorado potato beetle on potatoes does not present any difficulty: dry powder is sprinkled on the ground between the rows and carefully dust the leaves on the plants.

To prepare the infusion, it will take several days. Several ways to make an infusion at home:

  1. A 100-gram package of seasoning is stirred in a couple of liters of cold water and left to infuse for several days. After infusion, filter and top up to a full 10-liter bucket.
  2. The same 100-gram package of powder is poured with 2 liters of boiling water. This reduces the preparation of infusion to 1 day. Further steps to prepare the composition are similar to the first recipe.
  3. If you use two packs per bucket of water at once, you can get a concentrated suspension, which is not used for spraying, but watered under the root of potato bushes.

On a note!

If 60 g of alkaline soap are dissolved in the composition prepared according to the first two recipes, the effectiveness of the infusion will increase significantly. The suspension allows you to get rid not only of the Colorado pest, but also of wireworms and slugs that live in the ground.

Plus these folk remedies in their absolute harmlessness to humans, birds and the environment.

Reviews

I tried to process potatoes with mustard and vinegar. The wreckers "said thanks and invited me to come in with a treat." No bitterness and smell prevent them.

Nikolay, Rostov-on-Don

We manage to get rid of the Colorado potato beetle with the help of mustard and vinegar, but we use this tool in combination and use it in repeated processing. The first time we sprinkle potatoes with an infusion of walnuts before the appearance of colorado. And here is the second time we use the composition “of homemade means of destruction”, that is, of these homemade seasonings. But the second time you need to spray potatoes strictly during flowering. For several years now we don’t know grief.

Living plants

To protect nightshade crops, many gardeners plant mustard seeds in the aisles. A grown bush cannot poison pests, but its essential oils provide etching from beds not only of all garden pests, but also of their enemies at the same time. But earthworms, this plant provides a favorable environment for life.

A mustard bush develops rapidly, blooms profusely. If there are not enough seeds for sowing in the right places, you can cut off the flowers from the mustard bush and spread them on unprotected potato beds.
