How to process tomatoes from white and black flies

If small white or black flies appeared on the site, then it is time to prepare for the active rescue of the crop. Measures to control the black fly on tomatoes are both directed in nature and compliance with simple prevention. But when choosing which method to use, it is important to remember that the pest multiplies very quickly, so there is very little time for preparation.

What danger are

The small white fly in the garden is a representative of whiteflies. These are very tiny individuals up to 2 mm. The body is greenish, and on the wings there is a light white coating. They live on the back of the foliage, laying eggs in the same place. Whitefly larvae are tightly attached to the leaf surface using a special sticky enzyme.

Important!

Garden pest feeds on plant sap. But the main danger to plantations is precisely the feces of whiteflies. They contain spores of sooty fungi. The foliage is first covered with a sticky white coating, then this place turns black.

Signs of tomato whitefly infection:

  1. The appearance of whitish and black spots on the leaves.
  2. Glitter on the leaves.
  3. Folding and wilting foliage.
  4. The fruits do not ripen, white streaks can be seen in the pulp.
  5. When approaching tomatoes, flocks of small moths take off from them.

If a black fly appeared on tomatoes, then we are talking about infection of aphids or cicadas. Pests can have small transparent wings or be wingless. The body is black. They also settle on the back of the leaves and feed on plant sap.

Aphids are dangerous at high breeding rates. Destroying one plant, it quickly moves to another. It affects not only tomatoes, but also many other crops.

When choosing a remedy than to process a tomato, the stage of its growth should be considered. Depending on this, choose shop or folk remedies. During flowering, the use of chemicals is strictly prohibited, it can be dangerous to human health. Therefore, it is best to choose a proven folk remedy that you can use at any time and not be afraid for your own safety.

Reviews

About a week I tried to get rid of a fly on tomatoes with folk remedies. I tried everything I knew and that friends suggested. There was no result. Then he bought Fosbetsid and by the evening after processing the flies it was noticeably smaller. I didn’t even have to spray again.

Confidor always helped fight black and white flies on tomatoes. The main thing is to be able to process the crops correctly, so that the product necessarily falls on each leaf. It is difficult to do, but you have to refine yourself. The result is not long in coming.

Folk remedies

If the growth stage or other circumstances do not allow the use of chemicals, then no less effective alternative methods of getting rid of flies on tomatoes should be used. The main principle of the action of folk remedies is scaring flies by smell.

Important!

Processing is best done in the morning, before the sun has managed to rise high. Tomato fly in the hours of morning cool is very passive and the chances of quality processing increase.

Whitefly and black fly on tomatoes are afraid of infusions of herbs. If they process crops at least 2 times, the pest will recede.

Popular infusions:

  • Dandelion. The third part of the plants with roots, leaves and flowers is filled with 8 liters of boiling water. Insist a day and carry out the processing of beds.
  • Acetic. 100 ml of a bite is enough for a bucket of water. Water the seedlings in the morning before sunrise.
  • Tobacco. Soak 500 g of tobacco in a bucket of water. Leave on for 24 hours, after which the solution is ready for use.
  • Purebred. To get rid of flies on tomatoes, 2 tbsp. l dry plant pour a glass of water and boil for 5 minutes. Insist 12 hours, add 2 liters of water and spray the tomatoes. Celandine can be replaced with wormwood.

Liquid soap and vegetable oil will also help drive flies from tomatoes. To do this, mix 1 cup of vegetable oil, 2 cups of water and 10 ml of liquid soap. Mix everything thoroughly and process the tomatoes.

If midges were noticed at an early stage of their development, then it is enough to spray the plants with a soap solution. To prepare, dissolve a bar of laundry soap in a bucket of water. Repeat the procedure every other day.

How to get rid of midges on tomatoes in a greenhouse

Greenhouses for midges are a very comfortable place. It is always warm and rather humid. Therefore, the process of their reproduction is noticeably accelerated, and the struggle is complicated. To get rid, you can use any of the above drugs or use a simple alternative method.

In order for white flies to disappear in a greenhouse with tomatoes, you need to prepare such an infusion:

  1. Grind about 200 g of garlic and add it to a bucket of water. Leave to infuse for 3 hours. Be sure to mix every hour.
  2. Add 50 g dry mustard and 5 pods of hot pepper.
  3. Mix everything and pour into a container with a spray.

Processing tomatoes in the morning and evening for 2-3 days, until the flies disappear.

Well helps infusion of onion peel. The minimum amount of husk per bucket should be 300 g, but the more concentrated the solution, the better. Put the husk in a bucket of water and cook for 30-40 minutes. If the initial treatment is not satisfactory, repeat the treatment in a week.

On a note!

It helps to escape from midges and slightly strengthen the tomatoes with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. They need to process seedlings in the morning or in the evening 2 times. Do not repeat the procedure every day. After the first treatment, take a break of 1-3 days.

Pest Prevention

Fly Prevention
Fly Prevention

Fighting flies can take a lot of time, during which insects have time to cause significant damage to the crop. Elementary rules of prevention will help at times reduce the likelihood of an insect attack.

  1. Care should be taken to clean areas. This rule will not only improve its aesthetic appearance, but also will not allow pests to settle for the winter in the country or garden. To do this, regularly weed out and take them out of the site.
  2. Tomatoes and flies have different climatic preferences. Cultures love freedom and coolness, while insects, on the contrary, are warm and humid. Therefore, tomatoes should be planted at a distance of at least 40 cm from each other. To prevent the fly from settling in the greenhouse, it should be regularly ventilated and prevent an increase in humidity.
  3. Also, small pests can be prevented by planting special plants with a repelling odor. The cat will not approach the tomatoes if you plant calendula, garlic, parsley or dill nearby.
  4. Do not ignore the natural enemies of white and black flies. Ladybugs, wasps, bees, cocks and lacewings will become a reliable protection of the site from pests. To attract them, you can plant fragrant herbs on the site.

Thus, tomato pests pose a huge threat to the entire crop. It is recommended to display it immediately upon detection. If the insect populations are not too large, you can try folk remedies, if they do not give a result, you will have to process the cultures with chemicals.
