Stinky Bedbugs

A stink bug - such a not-so-pretty name was given to fairly large insects, representatives of the Pentatomidae family. They are widespread throughout Russia and are famous for their very unpleasant specific smell. For shield insects, as well as for other individuals from the bug group, it is a kind of communication language, a system of signals that allows insects to navigate in the surrounding space, to protect themselves and even survive. Smelly bugs, unlike other specieshave the strongest flavor.

general characteristics

The tree shield has a flat, oval-shaped body resembling an irregular pentagon with characteristic protrusions on the sides. In length, it reaches 10-12 mm. Under the hard shell is a pair of wings, which stands out on the surface of the body with a brown spot. Aromatic glands can be located both on the cephalothorax and on the posterior end of the abdomen, depending on the particular subspecies of the insect.

The color of the stink varies from bright green to brown. The change in shade of chitinous cover is determined by the time of year and the habitat of the pest. In the photo you can see that representatives of this species are distinguished by a very noticeable bright color, covered with a dense carapace of a stocky body.

The stink bug has a piercing-sucking mouthpart. With a sharp proboscis, he punctures the outer covers of leaves, plants and feeds on their juices. With the onset of cold weather, the insect falls into a state of suspended animation, in which it is until the onset of spring. When the first tender greens appears, the stink goes in search of a comfortable habitat where the active mating process begins.

On a note!

The most preferred insects are bushes of raspberries, gooseberries, which is why they are called berry bugs, quite often settle on birch, alder, elm, larch and other trees.

A female street pest lays eggs on the inside of the leaf in an even circle of 40 pieces. They are rounded barrels with closed lids. Larvae appear after about two weeks and begin to actively feed, causing irreparable harm to plants. Small smelly bugs outwardly resemble adults. To achieve puberty, they must 5 times change their chitinous membrane.

Smell

The main reason for the repulsive unpleasant odor coming from the stink is a special secret produced by odorous glands. They secrete substances that contribute to the spread of unbearable stench for humans. At forest bugs this is cimic acid. The glands that produce secretions with an unpleasant odor are multifunctional. Depending on the concentration of the substance released, smelly bugs can use it as such tools:

  • signal with your smell about approaching danger and scare away enemies;
  • engage a mating partner;
  • scare off competing males;
  • help you navigate in space by smell, find your fellow tribesmen and make long transitions;
  • contribute to the efficient search for food.

On a note!

Stinkers do not suffer from their own stench, but for the surrounding insects, these secretions are dangerous.They can cause paralysis, cramping, and in the worst case, the death of the enemy.

The bug stinks the most when you crush it. The odorous discharge of street parasites forms an unbearable stench due to the processing of the plant juices that they feed on. Forest bugs smell them - a reliable weapon against a large number of enemies. At the moment of imminent threat or imminent danger, the stink glands intensively develop a special secret. Physical damage to the insect only increases the smell, as the odorous substance is squeezed out of the ducts in which it is formed and stored. This contributes to the fact that “light pheromones” are replaced by an intense poisonous aroma that is absolutely safe for humans.

Many are interested in the question, which insects smell like bugs. All representatives of this type of insect, to a greater or lesser extent, have a specific smell. Harsh aromas emit almost all types of agricultural pests, as well as other herbivorous and carnivorous:

  • scutelluses - two-toothed, berry, red-legged, green and striped;
  • northern cruciferous bug;
  • harmful bug;

  • water strider;
  • belostoma;
  • American stink.

Into this list of insects with intensive secretion of liquid can be added to all known bug soldier, and also the birch bug belongs to them. A large number of different insects, flying and crawling into apartments and houses, exude odors akin to shields. It can be quite harmless insects - weevils, flour eatersBetilides are relatives of ants and others.

Pest control

Forest bugs always live in conditions most comfortable for their existence. If the situation changes, then they often find shelter in a person’s home. The stink’s bite does not carry any danger, especially since it can’t bite a person at all. If bugs from the street climb into the house, then do not panic. In addition to aesthetic inconvenience, they are not able to harm people and pets living in the apartment. Bedbug stinky bugs do not weave a web, do not tolerate diseases.

Since they eat plant food, once in the conditions of a home, bed bugs on the windows can settle in indoor plants and gradually destroy them. In this case, it is necessary to clean the apartment from uninvited guests. The easiest way is to throw them out of the open window.

On a note!

It is undesirable to get rid of stinks with a vacuum cleaner, since then you will have to remember the incident for a very long time.

A frequent visitor to apartments in cities such as Moscow and other localities is the elm bug. The most effective tool in the warm season is a mosquito net, which will not let any insect, including the stink, into the house. If parasites have flooded the garden, then more effective measures will have to be applied, because they can destroy or spoil almost the entire crop of fruit and berry crops.

There are several methods to deal with forest bugs:

  • manually collected in case of slight contamination of the territory;
  • apply infusions, which must be done on the basis of mustard and onion peel, they will have to process plants several times;
  • spray plantings with karbofos, chlorophos or phosphamide.

Knowing how to get rid of stink bugs, you should choose the most safe and effective methods, and also take into account that for their destruction there are no narrowly targeted drugs.
