Little white bugs in the apartment

The appearance of any insects in a house or apartment is usually associated not with the uncleanliness of the owners, but with the presence of favorable conditions: water and food necessary for their existence. Therefore, if white insects are found in the apartment, then you should figure out who they are, and then deal with their destruction.

Insects in the apartment

The appearance of small white bugs in the apartment will surprise the most experienced landlord. Among the many types of insects, there are several similar ones, which may turn out to be white, beige or transparent.

Below are photos and names of white insects in an apartment or house:

  • silverfish - small bugs up to 1 cm long, having a white, light gray or translucent, elongated body, ending in 3 hairs; they are active only at night, can move quickly;
  • wood lice are gray, gray-white or brown individuals, the body of which is divided into segments, each of which has a pair of legs, belong to the type of land crustaceans, breathe with gills, - such insects start in the house from dampness and their main diet consists of plant debris and water;
  • mosquitoes and larvae - prefer to relax in the daytime in a room with high humidity;
  • sewer beetle - differs in gray-black color and large size (up to 3 cm), strong carapace that protects it from crushing, very nimble and fast, prefers warm and humid places;
  • spiders, midges, centipedes or ants - able to penetrate from the basement or neighboring apartment through ventilation pipes;

Insect Habitats

Absolutely all insects can not do without water, therefore, getting into the apartment, they are looking for premises and places in them, located closer to moisture sources:

  • pipes (water supply and sewerage), on which condensate accumulates;
  • hard-to-reach and well-hidden areas in the bathroom, near communications;
  • wet or wet floor mats; various hygiene products with residual moisture;
  • places where dust accumulates and does not clean (floor under the bathroom, backs of shelves in the cabinet, etc.).

On a note!

The appearance of white or gray bugs in the bathroom bowl is caused by poor sanitary conditions in the room. In addition, some insects may come from neighbors after being harassed in their apartment. Some exceptionally tenacious specimens then migrate in search of a new home.

Silverfish

Such small long little insects are able to move very quickly on their numerous paws, penetrating into the narrowest crevices. They instantly hide when the light is turned on. Silverfish ways to breed fast enough, therefore, are a problem for apartment owners.

Their diet includes various substances: wallpaper glue, molds, book bindings, sugar-containing products, fabrics and leather (not synthetic), food residues, and even wet paper and rags.Due to the nocturnal lifestyle, it is difficult to notice silverfish right away.

Such gray-white bugs from dampness appear and for life choose corners with high humidity. For humans, they are not dangerous: they do not bite because of too small a mouth, bacteria do not spread.

On a note!

The only harm such insects can cause is the nervous system of people who are frightened of their rapid movement on surfaces, and if they crawl along the body, then impressionable women may faint.

Woodlice

These insects have an oval body of light gray, white, beige or brown color, convex on top, consists of several segments. The bug has 7 pairs of legs and a hard shell, and an antennae up to half the body are in front. In nature, woodlice love humid places, from which they got their name, but sometimes they also live near human habitation. They can climb into the cellar and in some rooms in the house (bathroom or toilet), where there is high humidity.

On a note!

You can see such insects in the toilet or in the bathroom only when the lights are turned on at night, because during the day they hide in secluded corners. Woodlice feed on plant debris, are able to harm plants in the garden. Inside the living quarters, they can settle not only in the bathroom and toilet, but also in the living rooms, where there are decorative flowers in pots. Here they find not only water, but also food.

Penetrating into living quarters, wood lice are not only able to scare people who are disgusted by insects who run fast, but from moisture and mold they become carriers of various fungal diseases, which pose a danger to human health.

Therefore, it is necessary to deal with such moisture-loving insects, taking all possible measures to destroy them.

How to get rid of white insects in the bathroom

If the number of pests is small, then it is quite possible to do simple physical home insect repellent:

  • perform a general cleaning of the bathroom, removing dirt and deposits of condensate;
  • treat the entire room with bleach or other disinfectant, then apply a solution of copper sulfate;
  • Humidity can be reduced by regularly ventilating or drying with electrical appliances.

Other remedies to get rid of small white insects:

  • a trap of wet birch broom, which is set from an angle at night, attracts domestic insects and parasites, they get entangled in the twigs of the broom, so you can burn it or take it out of the house in the morning;
  • traps of glass jars wrapped on the outside with paper or scotch tape; on such a surface, any insects easily climb up and fall down, wanting to eat a bait in the form of an apple, sugar, etc., they cannot get back out on slippery walls;
  • moisten a roll of toilet paper and put it overnight - moisture-loving bugs will rush into it, in the morning it must be destroyed, but not deployed (otherwise it will run away).

Important!

If you do not deal insect killing, then white or transparent bugs can spread throughout the apartment. Therefore, in case of failure in an independent struggle, it is better to contact the sanitary epidemiological service.

Chemical and folk remedies

To destroy white insects in the house, insecticidal aerosols are recommended, which should be used every week (Raid, Raptor, Dichlorvos, Clean House, etc.). When processing personal protective equipment should be used (respirator or gauze bandage, rubber gloves on hands).

Folk remedies against silverfish and wood lice:

  • sprinkle diatomite in the cabinets - a substance that kills crawling parasites, its solution can be used to treat cracks in the walls, joints of tiles, baseboards;
  • sprinkle spices (cloves, etc.), essential oils or citrus zest inside the cabinet, which must be changed every 4 days;
  • powder of boric acid in a mixture with chalk (in a ratio of 1: 4) sprinkle pipes, places under the toilet bowl and sink, the solution can treat the surface of the pipe;
  • Against woodlice, it is also recommended to use a solution consisting of soda ash (3 g), tobacco powder and ground red pepper per 1 liter of water - this mixture must be sprayed in places where pests accumulate (baseboards, ceilings, crevices and corners in the bathroom, toilet and cellar) ;
  • potatoes or carrots are used for catching wood lice in flower pots; for this purpose, the middle is cut out in them and left for the night, when they get there, the baits are destroyed along with the bugs.

Prevention of the appearance of bugs

In order not to solve the problem when white insects are wound up in the apartment, the following preventive measures should be taken:

  • regularly wipe condensate and dust on the pipes;
  • keep the bathroom and toilet clean;
  • check how well ventilation works in office rooms (toilet, bathroom, kitchen), if necessary, periodically clean the mines;
  • make redecorating by closing all existing cracks near the baseboards, in the walls and on the floor;
  • when leaking, you should immediately repair the taps, avoiding the accumulation of moisture;
  • dry too wet corners with a fan heater, because in such places insects can lay eggs, and hot air will destroy them;
  • when mold occurs, such places should be carefully treated with chlorine, and then dried;
  • in the kitchen should regularly check all stocks of cereals, do not leave crumbs;
  • prevent the accumulation of garbage, take out food and other wastes on time.

With regular cleaning, drying and hygiene in office premises (bathroom, toilet and kitchen), no white insects will be able to settle in the house due to the lack of high humidity necessary for them.
