How and how to poison moles

The summer season is a time of hard work for gardeners and gardeners: preparing the soil, planting seedlings, planting vegetables and caring for shrubs and fruit trees. In the “battle” for the crop, many troubles can cause moles - underground inhabitantswho, in search of food, dig multilevel galleries and moves, gnawing the roots of useful plants on their way. Often the only way pest control is a poison for moles, which will help reduce their numbers on the site and save garden crops from death.

The benefits and harms of moles

Some scientists believe that deep transitions and mole burrows improve soil breathability and benefit soil. However, moving underground under digged passages, these animals contribute to the death of garden plants and even trees due to damage to the roots. When in the middle of the beds with already planted vegetables there are many molehills, the owners become desperate because of their ruined labor and future harvest.

If none humane ways to scare away or protection against underground pests are not able to help, many people think about how to destroy or how to poison these animals, reducing their number in the garden plot or cottage.

Fight against moles

Over the past 10 years, experienced gardeners have come up with many ways and means underground pest control, which can be divided into 3 groups:

  • repelling moles with plants, traps, homemade devices and ultrasound scarers;
  • chemicals that allow you to destroy animals with the help of poison;
  • folk methods with which you can catch or poison pests.

Store Poisons Against Earthy Animals

In hardware stores or on the market, several types of mole poisoning are available for sale, which have different efficacy and effect on pests.

Such rodenticidal products are available in several types:

  • poison baits that are placed near the holes: braces, pellets, granules;
  • concentrated liquids used to prepare poison in the form of an additive to the base of grains or other products;
  • means that emit toxic gas.

The most popular poisons for moles:

  • ARGUS Garden (Argus Garden, Russia) - rodenticidal poison in the form of granules, weight 50 g. Helps to get rid of moles with the help of the toxic substance bromadiolone, from which the animals suffocate, which causes their death. Pellets should be laid out on 15-20 g in the form of baits from 2 sides near the mole exit. The price is 50 rubles.
  • ARGUS-gel - specially designed to destroy moles, rats and mice, the tube contains 30 g of gel. Consumption rate: in portions of 5-10 g to apply gel in each hole. The active substance brodifacum affects the respiratory system of the animal, causing paralysis. Price 100 rub.
  • Gel concentrate Green House (Rosagroservice) - a special liquid for the preparation of poison against rats, moles and mice, volume 1 l. Contains bromadiolone, which causes suffocation in animals after eating a poisoned bait, which is done at the rate of 50 g of poison per 1 kg of edible base.The fluid flow rate is 15-20 g for each molehill. Price 700 rub.
  • Anti-Mole - rodenticidal granules (50 or 100 g) with a toxic substance content are put in a volume of 15-20 g in each underground passage of moles and mole rats. The price is 50-100 rubles.
  • Russian trap - special paraffin briquettes for the destruction of moles and rodents. In the package 1 kg of blocks are allowed for use in residential premises, cellars and garden areas. The active substance is brodifacum, which causes paralysis of the respiratory organs of animals. Price 600 rub.
  • Anti-Mole Modifi - poison in the form of pellets for combating moles and mole rats in a package of 120 g. Main components: garlic, bromadialion, bitrex, kerosene, grain base, etc. Pellets of 10-20 g are placed near both ends of the hole. Price 100 rub.

Important!

Before buying any poison, you should definitely read the attached instructions, since many toxic substances have a negative effect not only on animals, but also on surrounding plants and even affect the soil. Therefore, their use in the garden or orchard may adversely affect the future harvest.

Mole poisoning

Mole poisoning

One of the modern means disposal of underground pests - the use of poison from moles in the country in the form of poisoning them with gas, which is released during fumigation of underground passages with an insecticide.

Dacfosal Anticrot - a poisonous agent against moles and insects, is sold in a tube with tablets of 3 pcs. It contains aluminum phosphide, which during fumigation or fumigation emits toxic gas that penetrates the burrows of underground pests and destroys them. It is applied at air temperature not lower than + 10ºС.

The active substance formed during spraying, phosphine gas, is a fumigant insecticide that enters the respiratory system of pests and blocks the access of oxygen there, which quickly and effectively leads to their death. The higher the air temperature, the higher the toxicity of the substance.

You can also lay the tablets themselves directly in the underground passages of moles, and then close them with improvised material (a board or stones) and fill them up with earth. The expense of the drug is 3 tablets per each hole.

Important!

The process of fumigation is best carried out by specialists in a group of several people. When working with such toxic gaseous substances, it is imperative to wear a respirator, protective suit and gloves. The contents of the glass flask must be used in 1 time, because if air gets into it, an irreversible chemical reaction occurs.

This tool is highly toxic to the environment, so it is not recommended for use in the garden because of the negative impact on the soil and plants.

Folk methods

Do-it-yourself mole poison

To prepare poisonous baits for the destruction of underground pests can be done independently. Mole poison with their own hands is prepared from wheat grains, which must first be boiled. Then add any pesticide or other poisonous substance to the resulting porridge, mix well.

The prepared poison in the form of balls is laid out over the territory of the site, burying to a depth of at least 15 cm. The effectiveness of the poison will increase if it is put directly into the passages by digging a molehill.

Such a folk method is cheaper and is able to replace store poison products. To increase reliability, after 2 weeks the procedure with poisoned baits should be repeated.

On a note!

Similarly to the method of fumigation, some motorists arrive who invented to poison moles with exhaust gas through a hose laid to a hole. This method is not effective, because the soil in underground utilities often collapses, and the gas does not pass in depth. Its disadvantage is also the harm that is caused to microorganisms in the soil and planted plants.

Another popular method is quite laborious: you need to collect earthworms, which are the main food for moles. Treat each with rat poison, cut it with a knife and put it inside, and then lay it as a poison in the underground passages.

Interesting!

In North America, the store sells poison bait in the form of worms, which facilitates the work of preparing “poisonous worms” at home. It is enough to extract the finished worm-shaped poisons and place them in mole passages.

Efficiency and reviews

Removing moles from the garden with the help of toxic substances is the most inhumane and inappropriate way to solve this problem. After all, the danger is created that not only moles and rodents will be poisoned, birds, domestic animals or neighbors may suffer. Also, the poison is able to penetrate into plants growing in the garden, which will negatively affect the future harvest.

When we got a lot of moles in the garden in the spring, no “scaring” methods worked. Then I bought Anti-Mole in the store in the form of cubes with poison for moles and mole rats. I bought several packages at once, laid out 2 cubes in each dug hole. The number of pests decreased, determined by the lack of fresh molehills.

Leonid, Yaroslavl

I think that to poison and destroy such cute animals is completely inhumane. After all, there are many scaring methods, ranging from bottles to modern ultrasound devices.
