Millet against ants in the country

Ant worker - that’s how he is described by people who did not have to deal with troubles when crumbs appeared at the cottage. But besides the fact that insects loosen the earth, fertilize the soil with nitrogen and humus, and also eat caterpillars, they destroy seeds and young shoots, spread weed seeds and graze aphids. For this reason, gardening enthusiasts are so afraid of these "hard workers", starting the search for an effective and safe tool. For this purpose, many use millet from ants in their summer cottage.

People used millet against ants in the country since ancient times. This fact is surprising to many, because millet groats are nothing more than peeled fruits of cultivated species of millet. Due to the presence in its composition of various trace elements, vitamins and complex carbohydrates, cereal is useful for both adults and children. Then the question naturally arises of why ants are afraid of millet.

How does this method work?

When using any means of pest control should be considered ants lifestyle, features of their behavior and breeding. After all, usually working individuals come to the surface in search of food, while the queen uterus, which is responsible for the procreation, usually does not leave the anthill. It is for this reason that extermination of worker ants is not a solution to this problem. To get rid of garden ants in the garden, it is necessary to fight precisely with uterus. How millet works in this situation, many will ask.

Why ants are afraid of millet, because yellow grains do not have a specific smell at all. Opinions on this subject vary.

According to one version, wheat grains are the cause of uterine death because, under the influence of moisture, they swell and clog passages in anthill, depriving the queen of the opportunity to eat.

Others believe that insects eat millet very well. Having eaten large ants, they will surely die from the effects of grains swollen in their body, since the influence of the latter on the digestive system is inevitable.

There is a third opinion, according to which, due to constant dampness in the soil, soil fungi begin to appear on scattered wheat grains. A rejecting odor can affect ants, which makes them leave the area.

It has not yet been possible to ascertain which of these variations coincides with reality. However, getting rid of “garden robbers” with millet is quite possible.

You can use millet to remove ants from the garden in various ways.

  1. It is enough to sprinkle them around the tree or on the anthill so that the insects no longer disturb the plants.
  2. Often summer residents are faced with the fact that ants do not like millet. To attract the attention of pests in such a situation, powdered sugar will help. A kilogram of cereal is enough to mix with a glass of crushed sugar, and spread this mixture in the places of the greatest accumulation of insects.
  3. Millet is equally effective if it is soaked for several minutes in hot water. Jam, honey or sweet syrup should be added to the steamed grains, after draining the excess liquid. Sweet millet must be laid out in the garden next to the ant nest.

The effectiveness of these methods of pest control is evidenced by numerous reviews of millet.

When in the country ants began to eat cabbage, began a search for their home. After much research, I found a nest of insects and sprinkled it with millet densely. After a couple of weeks, the pests were not even remembered.
